Once we crossed the Green line into Northern Cyprus, our first stop was to Famagusta which is in the southern part of the Northern Republic of Cyprus and we went to the medieval town of Famagusta and got a tour of the St. Nicholas Cathedral. You have to take your shoes off to enter because it was turned into a mosque for the turkish cypriots. After the tour, we were allowed 40 minutes to wander around the town before heading off to our next stop. With our free time, we found some shops and bought a few souvenirs as well. Then we went to the beach in Famagusta where it was a Turkish military occupied area, and there was tons of abandoned buildings and hotels down the coast line of the beach. However, these building would have to be demolished and rebuilt in order to be liveable again. There was only one hotel that was still in business in that area. It was such an eerie feeling, and it would be a very pretty area if everything wasnt over grown and abandoned. Then we went to Kyrenia which is on the northern part of the Norther Republic of Cyprus and it took around 45 minutes to get from coast to coast, plus driving through the mountains as well. Once in Kyrenia we had lunch at a restaurant on the harbor and then took a tour of the Kyrenia Castle and got some AMAZING pictures of the sea and the harbor! The water was SO blue it was incredible! Plus it was about to rain so it was very cloudly which is perfect to get good pictures!
