Maria, Katie and I decided to go to Limassol when earlier plans fell through and it was a great decision! The bus ride was only 9 euros for a round trip and took about an hour and a half to get there. Once we got there, we ate lunch at Cafe Nero which is in the new harbor and right on the water. Our friends went to Limassol the day before us and gave us a taxi driver's number who drove them round to see all of the historical sites for only 40 euros! We called him and he said that he would do the same tour for us and picked us up at the habor. On our way to the first destination, he stopped on the side of the road so we can pick some oranges and we happened to stumble over the largest snail we've seen so far! The first destination was to the Kolossi Castle. It was amazing to walk through the castle and its mind blowing that it was built so long ago and is still in good condition today. Our second stop was to the outside amphitheater which is on the top of a large hill and oh my was the breath taking!! It was by the coastline and you could see it go on for miles! I could have stayed there all day and looked at the view. There was also historical mosaics there as well which was pretty neat to see. The next destination was to the Apollo Hylates ruins, it crazy to think that these were built so long ago and how much work must have been put into making them not to mention how they got the columns to be perfecting round and smooth. Then we went to the Stadium ruins which was much, but a large rectangle rock mound. It was used for sports like javelin, long jump, and high jump. Also there were horse races that took place here as well. We then went to a look out point on top of the hill and took some AMAZING pictures of the land, these pictures don't do any justice. And lastly we went to a wine museum and sampled some wine and played with kitties! It was a really fun day! Next time we go, we'll have to sit by the beach all day and just wonder around now that we seen all of the historical sites!
