Our first time visiting the old town of Nicosia started off with touring the Cyprus Archaeological Museum. There was so many artifacts from so many different cultures around the mediterranean. It was very interesting to learn about the country's history these past weeks and being able to see all it all. After the museum we walked around the southside of Nicosia. Nicosia is the last capital that is still divided, the southside is the Greek side and the Northside is under Turkish control. To get to one side or the other is very much like crossing boarders between two countries. However, the only country that recognizes the northside as an independant state is Turkey.
The old town of Nicosia has an abundance of colorful doors all around! There all so pretty and unqiue in their own way! The colorful doors and window shutters are supposed to keep bugs away, but I'm not sure if it actually works or not. Also, Cyprus has cats all around! Walking in the old town, there were cats everywhere! They were brought to the island to take care of the snake problem and then kind of exploded, espcially with not having any predators on the island to keep the numbers down. After touring the old streets we had lunch at a restaurant that had traditional Cypriot food. On the menu, there was lamb, chicken, and pigeon!!
